As we journey back towards Antigua, our route takes a captivating detour to the fascinating Mayan ruins of Iximché. Your guide will pick you up from your hotel, and after a scenic hour’s drive towards Tecpán, we’ll arrive at this significant archaeological site. Iximché holds a rich history, once serving as the capital of the Kaqchikel Maya kingdom. Explore the well-preserved plazas, temples, and ceremonial platforms, where your guide will vividly recount the compelling stories and historical events that unfolded within these ancient grounds. Following our exploration of Iximché, we’ll briefly visit San Juan Comalapa, a town celebrated as the «cradle of primitivist art» and the birthplace of Rafael Álvarez Ovalle, the composer of Guatemala’s National Anthem. Finally, as our tour concludes, we’ll pause for a delicious lunch at a restaurant along the main road in Tecpán before continuing our comfortable journey back to Antigua.
